iPage Review – Cheap Hosting for Small Businesses

iPage Plans and Pricing

iPage offers a wide range of hosting plans and online services. In this brief overview I would like to point out their shared hosting package, the “Essential Hosting” plan which starts from $1.99 per month, multiple VPS plans that start from $19.99 per month, dedicated plans from $119.99 per month and WordPress optimized hosting from $3.75 monthly. iPage also offer domain registration, ecommerce and marketing services as well website administration program.

In this iPage review I will be focusing on the “Essential” plan, which is a Linux based shared hosting, great for individuals and small businesses. This plan includes many great features and come with lots of freebies.

iPage Uptime and Performance

I have been tracking and monitoring my websites hosted with iPage for over 6 months. I used UptimeRobot to track downtime of the server.

I got some pretty good results. The average response time in the tested period was 653 ms and the worst uptime for one month was 99.93%, which is definitely a good value for a shared hosting plan.

iPage Customer Service

I have been a customer of iPage for more than 6 years. In this period I had some issues with one of websites, but problem was solved quickly and in a very professional way.

Due to outdated Joomla version, my website was hacked. Support contacted me through email and warned me about this problem. They gave me the list of files which were infected and asked me to clear these files. My account was suspended because it was causing major performance issues on the whole server. After I removed the hacked files, my account went back online.

Website hacking is a very common problem, and it looks like iPage is handling these issues in a very professional manner.

There is live chat and phone support available also, but I haven’t tried them. I suppose you will get the same professional help through these support channels as well.

Fore self-help you can always do a quick search in the knowledge base, which contain many great articles and video tutorials on hosting account and third party scripts.

iPage Interface / Control Panel

If you have already used any other web hosting company before, probably the name cPanel is familiar to you. Unfortunately iPage’s hosting accounts are not managed through this control panel, but they have something similar to cPanel. They in-house built control panel is called vDeck, and it looks and works very similar to cPanel:

As you can recall, the interface of iPage’s hosting account is very simple and intuitive. The beautiful icons make it easier to find the functions you are looking for.

You can upload files to iPage using the FileManager or via your favorite FTP client. Choosing FTP upload, you will have to setup an FTP user. WordPress or other script can also be uploaded through FTP, but I recommend using the ScriptInstall tool. This enables you to automatically install any of your favorite script in just few clicks.

You want just a simple website with few pages? Well, you can use the Weebly site builder to create and publish up to 6 pages for free. The Weebly site builder offer drag and drop function that makes it easy to edit and customize your website. There are hundreds of designs you can choose from as well pre-built layouts you can insert into your pages. When you are ready with the editing, just hit the Publish button to make your website go live.

iPage Guarantees

Besides the 24/7 guaranteed online support, iPage also offer 30-Day money back guarantee. If you cancel your account within the first month, you will get a full refund on your hosting fee. Please note that the cost of domain you register for free will be deducted from the refund.

Unfortunately I was not able to find any information regarding uptime guarantee.

Conclusion on iPage.com

If you are looking for an inexpensive solution for creating and hosting your small business website or blog, iPage is a good company to consider. While the Essential plan is only enough to start your website, you have options to upgrade as your website become bigger. As an iPage customer, I highly recommend them.
